The Morningside - The Wind, the Trees and the Shadows of the Past

Band/artist - The Morningside
Genre(s) - Doom metal
Origin - Russia
Album - The Wind, the Trees and the Shadows of the Past
Year of release - 2007

This is the first release from a very new band in the melodic death-doom scene. The Morningside had the courage of releasing a full-length immediately without testing reactions with a demo first. They were not overconfident as it's proven to be a very impressive little (forty-minute) album and I'm not by far the only one to think so; ...Shadows of the Past has already been garnering a lot of respect for its highly convincing melancholia. It's not that heavy, but the melodies in both the true doom parts and the abundant acoustic passages are full of pain and mystic beauty. The best aspect is how the album only gets more spectacular towards the end. Essential for anyone who is not afraid of some elegance and fragility in his/her metal.
