Drudkh - Autumn Aurora

Band/artist - Drudkh
Genre(s) - Black metal
Origin - Ukraine
Album - Autumn Aurora
Year of release - 2004

It's really beginning to become autumn now so we can't go wrong with this album today. Usually I'm not so into Eastern European metal, and not for lack of trying, but every once in a while you find a gem, like this one. Drudkh play mostly ethereal black metal at a leisurely pace. It could easily have been a boring Burzum clone (not a fan of Varg, here) but it seems as though the spirit of Slavic folklore has twisted the melodies into something less predictable. The guitar lines possess a very unusual autumnal feel and structure. This music beckons you to follow as it weaves its way through the reds and yellows of the october forest. Autumn Aurora is a surprisingly gentle journey through breathtaking landscapes.
