This is not the band that's come to put the "fun" back in funeral. Nope. This is a votive offering to the coming death of mankind. Pure, cold, venomous hate is the gospel that Funeral Procession preach, through a black metal vessel without any vain ornamentation. Musically it reminds a bit of De Mysteriis-era Mayhem, but adapted to the year 2006 and this decennium's much more apocalyptic perspective on the future. The mix and production are very strong, especially the drums have a lovely deep rumble to them, greatly reinforcing the leaden guitars and intimidating vocals. No fun here, boys and girls.

This album didn't sit with me at all; I remember I had it for some time, really trying to like it but it just felt so bland for some reason...and I hate that grey cover. But I’ll give it another listen, its been more then two years since I last listened to this, maybe I’m gonna love it this time around haha
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I agree if you listen to it too much it will get tedious, especially the voice and the absence of an upper layer of higher-pitched guitar. This album thrives purely on its aggressive momentum and excellent execution, though there are a few killer riffs hidden in the rumble.
ReplyDeleteUsually I need more variation and atmosphere than this but it's great for when you're bummed out about life. :)
