John Frusciante is best known as the previously previous and currently current guitarist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, probably my favourite big, commerical rock band of today. He started releasing solo albums after quitting the Peppers between '92 and '98, and still does. His own work has enormous variety, this particular album is (nearly) entirely acoustic, others are electric or even electronic. In fact, to RHCP-fans, Curtains will sound sombre and stripped-down, and this fits his voice which has more feeling and a more graceful timbre than that of Anthony Kiedis. The Past Recedes will probably convince you immediately; I don't think I've ever heard anyone extract such beauty from just an acoustic guitar, mouth organ and his own voice before.
